It is an excellent sound deadening material and is typically used as underlayment for floating floor systems to reduce the "hollow" echo effect. Cork also provides a more natural sound as a natural flooring itself, or acoustic insulator on walls to muffle sounds of heavy traffic.

Cork is soft under your feet, giving under pressure, then restores to its original shape. Among its many qualities, cork is fire resistant, antistatic, hypo-allergenic, naturally repels insects, resists rotting and does not expel gases.
